2020 Maps Community Awards

Published September 1, 2020

Maps is committed to supporting our members and local Mid-Willamette Valley community during the COVID-19 pandemic. Since March, Maps has offered members skip-a-payment, emergency loans, and more. Our Maps Community Foundation has made grants to 37 local nonprofit organizations through our Maps Community Recovery Fund, distributing $86,500 to-date to support organizations serving the rising community need for food, housing, and other assistance.

We know that we are not alone. Many of our members are making a tremendous difference in their communities. They might be individually helping family, neighbors, friends, or community members via volunteering or through their business or employment. Each of us knows a Maps member who is an inspiration.

Through our 2020 Maps Community Awards, we would like to honor those Maps members who are “Making a Difference” during the pandemic. The purpose of the awards is to lift-up our community by celebrating the individuals who are an inspiration to us all during this challenging time.

If you know of a Maps member who is “Making a Difference,” please nominate them between 9/1-9/15 by filling out this short form.

Ten winners will be selected by early October*. Each winner will be given $1,000 to give to the nonprofit of their choice in Marion and/or Polk counties and Maps will share their story of support for our community and why they are motivated to give-back. Giving back to the community is something Maps believes in and wants to celebrate. We look forward to sharing these inspiring give-back stories!

Not sure if your friend, family member or colleague is a Maps member? Go ahead and ask. If they are, wonderful! If not, maybe you can share all the things you love about Maps and bring them into our Maps family, helping us to provide more financial services and support for our local region.

*Maps employees can nominate potential winners; however, are not eligible to be nominated or to win a Maps Community Award.

Maps Community Foundation – Vision and Impact Grows
The Maps Community Foundation was established in 2010 as the charitable giving arm for Maps Credit Union. Over the past ten years, the Foundation has sponsored numerous community events, awarded teacher grants to make classroom dreams come to life, supported small nonprofits through community challenge awards, and helped students get to college with scholarships and match savings. Free Community Checking Account members have played a key role in this giveback. With each debit card transaction, a penny is given to the Foundation—providing over $100,000 last year.

We are excited to share that a new and larger vision is unfolding for the Foundation. With the Maps Community Awards being one of our new initiatives. The Foundation’s new mission is: “to enrich the lives of members and our community by investing in education, economic empowerment, and community vibrancy.” Look for additional new and impactful initiatives to roll out in 2021. It is an exciting time for the Maps Community Foundation and, as always, we welcome your input.
