Housing

A $25,000 grant was given to the first phase of United Way’sCottages United affordable senior housing community in NE Salem across from Swegle Elementary. Each cottage is 400 sq-feet and includes one bedroom and bathroom, plus a living area, kitchen, and laundry space. The cottages are rented to individuals who are 55+ for $500 per month, which allows seniors who survive on only social security income to be able to afford this housing. According to a 2023 count, seniors represent the largest population experiencing homelessness in our community. We are proud to support United Way as they work to address this need through a creative and beautiful housing project.
