Punx with Purpose is a Salem-based nonprofit that supports at-risk youth ages 11 to 18 across Marion and Polk counties, including those who are LGBTQ+, unhoused, or living in rural communities. The nonprofit, which also hosts the annual Punx in the Park event, takes a unique approach by meeting youth where they are, providing food, hygiene supplies, clothing, resource navigation, peer mentorship, and a sense of belonging.
In May of 2026, the Maps Community Foundation awarded a $25,000 Maps Community Grant to Punx with Purpose in support of a new outreach vehicle—now nicknamed Tiny. The vehicle will help the nonprofit bring supplies, case management, and one-on-one support directly to youth who face transportation barriers or have difficulty accessing services in Salem and surrounding communities.
Tiny will also help connect young people to resources like healthcare appointments, education and employment opportunities, mental health support, and community programs. For youth in rural areas, teen parents, and young people navigating housing instability, that kind of direct access can make it easier to receive consistent support.
Punx with Purpose is helping young people feel recognized, heard, and cared for as they build stability and move toward their goals. This grant helps the organization extend its reach, strengthen mobile outreach, and create more opportunities for youth to connect with the resources and community they need.
